Steve Newhouse, Spitzname “Loopy”, war zwischen September 1978 und Juli 1984 Mitglied der ursprünglichen “Killer Krew”. Als Schulkamerad und bester Freund von Paul Di’Anno betätigte er sich später als Schlagzeug-Roadie des unvergessenen Clive Burr und bereiste im Auftrag von Iron Maiden die Welt. Es ist eine Reise durch die gesamte Entwicklung der originalen Band: von endlosen Proben in feuchten Kellern, über Auftritte im legendären Ruskin Arms, bis hin zu den Aufnahmen des fünften Albums »Powerslave« in Nassau auf den Bahamas. Mit jeder Menge Bier, Problemen, Tragödien, Touren, Studioaufenthalten, und noch mehr Bier. In den frühen Tagen gab es kaum eine andere Person, die näher an Iron Maiden dran war, als Steve “Loopy” Newhouse, der während seiner Zeit 300 Shows in 15 Ländern betreute, mit dem sagenumwobenen Bandgefährt “Green Goddess” hunderte von Kilometern kreuz und quer durch Großbritannien fuhr, aber auch in Fünf-Sterne-Hotels in Tokio nächtigte und mehr als einmal mit dem eisenharten Bandmanager Rod Smallwood aneinander geriet. Es war Newhouse, der Iron Maiden Ende 1978 nach Cambridge in die Spaceward Studios zur Aufnahme der legendären „Soundhouse Tapes“ begleitete, ebenso war er auch Anfang 1981 bei der TV-Aufzeichnung des Konzerts für den „Beat Club“ in Bremen hautnah mit dabei. Es ist eine wahre Geschichte, die zwar auf einem recht schlechten Gedächtnis basiert, aber auf der anderen Seite auch auf vielen Tagebucheinträgen, die minutiös Daten, Orte und Geschehnisse erfassen. Das Buch erzählt in bodenständiger Sprache die ungeschminkte Geschichte der Anfangszeit von Iron Maiden und beinhaltet eine Vielzahl unveröffentlichter Fotos aus diversen Privatarchiven. Und als ob das noch nicht genug wäre, stammt die exklusive Frontcover-Zeichnung vom ehemaligen Maiden-Hauszeichner Derek Riggs (der mittlerweile in den Vereinigten Staaten beheimatet ist). Mit einem Vorwort des ehemaligen Maiden-Gitarristen Dennis Stratton (der heute mit seiner eigenen Band Lionheart Erfolge feiert). Eddie rules o.k.!
